Industrial Floor Coating for EUF – Warehouse Flooring Case Study, Purfleet, Essex

Introduction

EUF required a cost-effective industrial floor coating for their warehouse in Purfleet, Essex. The existing 1,200 m² floor was a rough tamped concrete surface with a rippled texture that was wearing forklift tyres, generating dust and making routine cleaning difficult. Elgood Industrial Flooring was appointed to prepare the concrete and install a Britdura 750 high-build solvent free epoxy floor coating in Slate Grey, creating a hard-wearing, easy-to-clean warehouse floor delivered over two carefully planned phases.

Background

The warehouse floor at EUF had become increasingly impractical in day-to-day use. The rough unfinished surface was open and uneven, which meant dust was constantly being generated and difficult to collect. This affected housekeeping standards and also increased wear on forklift tyres moving across the floor.

EUF needed a practical industrial flooring solution that would seal the concrete, improve the appearance of the warehouse and make cleaning more straightforward, all while working to a tight budget. The floor also needed to be ready for use the following morning after application of the top coat, so programme and product selection were both critical.

As British manufacturers and installers with more than 125 years of industrial flooring experience, Elgood Industrial Flooring was able to provide a complete in-house solution, from preparation through to manufacture and installation of the final epoxy floor coating.

The Challenge

The project needed to meet several clear requirements:

  • Refurbish approximately 1,200 m² of rough tamped concrete in a working warehouse
  • Reduce the ridges and roughness of the existing surface profile
  • Seal the concrete with a product suitable for forklift truck traffic
  • Cut down dust generation and improve general housekeeping
  • Deliver a cost-effective industrial floor coating that improved the appearance of the warehouse
  • Complete the works in two consecutive three-day phases, with a day between phases to transfer stock
  • Ensure the floor was ready for use the following morning after application of the top coat

The Solution

Elgood Industrial Flooring specified and installed a complete Britdura 750 high-build solvent free epoxy flooring system for EUF’s Purfleet warehouse.

Key elements of the solution included:

  • Vacuum contained diamond grinding
The concrete was prepared using vacuum contained diamond grinding. This reduced the ridges of the tamped profile while also cleaning and keying the concrete, creating a suitable surface for the new coating system.
  • Britdura 750 high-build solvent free epoxy floor coating
Because EUF needed a cost-effective treatment, Elgood specified Britdura 750 high-build solvent free epoxy floor coating. Installed at approximately 1 mm thickness, this system provides a durable industrial floor finish suitable for warehouse use and forklift truck traffic.
  • Slate Grey finish
The floor was finished in Slate Grey, giving the warehouse a smarter, cleaner and more professional appearance.
  • Built-in fine slip resistant texture
The completed floor included a built-in fine slip resistant finish, making it ideal for use with scrubber dryer machines and helping to balance everyday safety with easy cleaning.
  • Phased installation programme
The installation was completed in two consecutive phases of three days, with a day between phases to allow stock transfer. This helped EUF continue operating while the floor refurbishment was carried out.
  • Guaranteed in-house system
The floor was manufactured, prepared and installed entirely by Elgood Industrial Flooring, with all materials and workmanship guaranteed.

Outcome

The completed industrial floor coating provided EUF with a more durable and practical warehouse floor in Purfleet, Essex:

  • A 1,200 m² Britdura 750 high-build solvent free epoxy industrial floor coating
  • A sealed concrete floor suitable for forklift truck traffic
  • A significant reduction in dust generation and easier day-to-day housekeeping
  • A Slate Grey finish that improved the appearance of the warehouse
  • A built-in fine slip resistant surface suited to scrubber dryer cleaning
  • A phased installation programme that kept disruption to a minimum and ensured the floor was ready for use quickly

By combining vacuum contained diamond grinding with a cost-effective Britdura 750 epoxy flooring system, Elgood Industrial Flooring delivered a hard-wearing, easy-to-clean industrial floor that improved both the performance and presentation of EUF’s warehouse in Purfleet, Essex.
