Industrial Floor Coating for Trueform Engineering – Epoxy Flooring Case Study, Hayes, Middlesex

Introduction

Trueform Engineering required a hard-wearing industrial floor coating for its Heathrow production facility in Hayes, Middlesex. The existing 4,300 m² concrete floor was heavily worn and painted, and no longer reflected the standard of a busy metal fabrication environment. Elgood Industrial Flooring was appointed to prepare the floor and install Britdura 750 solvent free high-build epoxy floor coating in Slate Grey and Light Grey, complete with yellow line markings, delivering a durable and more presentable industrial floor in four carefully planned phases including weekday and weekend working.

Background

Trueform Engineering operates a demanding production facility where the floor has to cope with heavy metal fabrication work, fork lift traffic and the day-to-day wear associated with a busy industrial setting. Over time, the concrete floor had become heavily worn and was covered with old paint, leaving the area tired in appearance and less suited to the client’s operational and presentation needs.

The business wanted an industrial floor coating that would improve the overall look of the facility while also providing long-term durability under heavy-duty use. As British manufacturers and installers with more than 125 years of experience in industrial flooring, Elgood Industrial Flooring was selected to provide a complete in-house solution.

The Challenge

The project needed to meet several clear requirements:

  • Refurbish a heavily worn and painted 4,300 m² concrete floor
  • Provide a hard-wearing industrial floor coating suitable for heavy metal fabrication work
  • Ensure the floor could withstand regular fork lift traffic
  • Improve the presentation of the Heathrow production facility
  • Include durable yellow line markings to support layout clarity and day-to-day organisation
  • Complete the works in phases, including week and weekend working, to suit operational needs

The Solution

Elgood Industrial Flooring specified and installed a complete Britdura 750 high-build solvent free epoxy flooring system tailored to the demands of Trueform Engineering’s production facility.

Key elements of the solution included:

  • Dust free shot-blasting
Dust free shot-blasting was used to remove the existing paint and to clean and key the concrete. This created the correct mechanical profile for the new epoxy coating while helping to control dust during preparation.
  • Diamond grinding to edges
Diamond grinding was used to prepare the edges and more detailed areas that were not accessible to the main shot-blasting equipment, ensuring a consistent standard of preparation across the whole floor.
  • Britdura 750 high-build solvent free epoxy floor coating
Trueform selected Elgood Industrial Flooring’s Britdura 750 solvent free high-build epoxy floor coating in Slate Grey and Light Grey. The system is applied by trowel and laid to an average finished thickness of approximately 1 mm, creating a dense, durable and hard-wearing industrial floor suitable for demanding fabrication and fork lift environments.
  • Yellow line markings
Yellow line markings were included as part of the contract. These markings are approximately 1 mm thick and have a smooth gloss appearance, making them easy to clean while helping to define routes and working areas clearly across the facility.
  • Phased installation programme
The installation was completed in four phases, including week and weekend working, allowing the project to be delivered in a way that supported the client’s operational requirements and minimised disruption.

All works were carried out by Elgood Industrial Flooring’s own in-house installation team, ensuring consistent workmanship and a single point of responsibility from preparation through to final finishing.

Outcome

The completed industrial floor coating has provided Trueform Engineering with a durable and more professional production floor in Hayes, Middlesex:

  • A 4,300 m² Britdura 750 solvent free high-build epoxy industrial floor coating designed for heavy-duty use
  • A hard-wearing surface capable of withstanding heavy metal fabrication work and regular fork lift traffic
  • A more presentable industrial environment created through the use of Slate Grey and Light Grey floor colours
  • Yellow line markings that improve layout clarity and remain easy to clean
  • A phased installation programme that included week and weekend working to suit the needs of the facility

By combining thorough dust free preparation with a proven Britdura 750 epoxy system, Elgood Industrial Flooring delivered a hard-wearing, easy-to-maintain and visually improved industrial floor that supports both the operational demands and presentation goals of Trueform Engineering’s Heathrow production facility.
