Introduction
CHEP required hard-wearing industrial floor coatings for two busy warehouse facilities in Manchester and Dublin, covering 2,000 m² and 2,500 m² respectively. Both heavily worn concrete floors needed to be refurbished to improve presentation, support better housekeeping and withstand continual fork lift traffic. Elgood Industrial Flooring was appointed to prepare the existing concrete and install Britdura 750 solvent free high-build epoxy floor coating in Slate Grey, with contrasting colours used to highlight specific areas and improve visual organisation across both sites.
Background
CHEP operates demanding warehouse environments where the condition of the industrial floor has a direct impact on presentation, housekeeping and day-to-day efficiency. At both the Manchester and Dublin facilities, the existing concrete floors were heavily worn and no longer offered the standard of finish required for modern warehouse use.
The client needed a flooring solution that could cope with constant fork lift traffic while also delivering a smarter, more manageable surface. Cost was an important factor, but performance could not be compromised. Elgood Industrial Flooring was selected to provide a practical refurbishment solution using its in-house manufactured Britdura 750 epoxy system.
The Challenge
The project needed to meet several clear requirements across both sites:
- Refurbish two heavily worn concrete warehouse floors of 2,000 m² in Manchester and 2,500 m² in Dublin
- Provide a hard-wearing industrial floor coating capable of withstanding continual fork lift traffic
- Improve the overall presentation of both facilities and support better housekeeping
- Deliver a solution that met both cost and performance demands
- Complete the Manchester works in one phase and the Dublin works in two phases to suit operational requirements
The Solution
Elgood Industrial Flooring specified and installed Britdura 750 solvent free high-build epoxy floor coating for both CHEP facilities, providing a durable and practical warehouse flooring solution.
Key elements of the solution included:
- Dust free shot-blasting
The existing paint was removed using dust free shot-blasting. This process also cleaned and keyed the concrete, creating a strong mechanical profile for the new coating system. - Diamond grinding to edges
Diamond grinding was used to prepare the edges and detailed areas that were not accessible to the shot-blasting equipment, ensuring a consistent standard of preparation across the full floor area. - Britdura 750 high-build solvent free epoxy floor coating
CHEP selected Elgood Industrial Flooring’s Britdura 750 solvent free high-build epoxy floor coating in Slate Grey. The product is applied by trowel and laid to a finished thickness of approximately 1 mm, creating a hard-wearing and durable industrial floor suitable for warehouse use. - Contrasting colours for key areas
Contrasting colours were used to highlight specific areas of the floor, helping to improve visual organisation and support more efficient use of the warehouse space. - Phased delivery to suit operations
The Manchester installation was completed in one phase, while the Dublin project was carried out in two phases to work around operational requirements and maintain continuity on site.
All works were completed by Elgood Industrial Flooring’s own in-house installation team, ensuring consistent workmanship and a single point of responsibility from preparation through to final finishing.
Outcome
The completed industrial floor coatings provided CHEP with durable and more presentable warehouse floors in both Manchester and Dublin:
- A hard-wearing Britdura 750 epoxy floor coating designed to withstand continual fork lift traffic
- Refurbished warehouse floors that improve presentation and support better housekeeping
- A practical Slate Grey finish with contrasting highlighted areas for clearer visual organisation
- A cost-effective industrial flooring solution that balanced performance with budget requirements
- Installations delivered in phases to suit the operational needs of each site
By combining dust free preparation with Britdura 750 solvent free high-build epoxy floor coating, Elgood Industrial Flooring delivered reliable warehouse flooring solutions for CHEP in both Manchester and Dublin, helping to improve durability, housekeeping and day-to-day operational efficiency.
