Introduction
Martin Audio required a hard-wearing industrial floor coating for a 2,000 m² facilities upgrade in High Wycombe. The existing painted concrete floor had been shot-blasted in the past, but the surface was worn and soiled and no longer offered the level of appearance or performance the client wanted. Elgood Industrial Flooring was appointed to prepare the floor, carry out remedial repairs and install a Britdura 750 solvent free epoxy floor coating in Slate Grey with a built-in fine slip resistant finish, delivering the project in three carefully planned phases suitable for an operational site.
Background
Martin Audio needed an industrial floor that would cope with forklift use while still retaining a good standard of appearance. In a busy manufacturing and operational environment, that meant selecting a floor coating that would provide durability, cleanability and a more professional finish without creating unnecessary disruption during installation.
The existing floor was a painted concrete surface that had already been prepared by shot-blasting in the past and had received a coating. Over time, that surface had become worn and soiled, making refurbishment the practical next step as part of the wider facilities upgrade.
As British manufacturers and installers with more than 125 years of industrial flooring experience, Elgood Industrial Flooring was able to manufacture, prepare and install the complete flooring system in-house.
The Challenge
The project needed to meet several clear requirements:
- Refurbish 2,000 m² of painted concrete as part of a wider facilities upgrade
- Provide a hard-wearing industrial floor suitable for forklift traffic
- Improve the appearance of a worn and soiled floor without unnecessary disruption to operations
- Repair bolt holes, cracks and joints so they would not become dirt traps and would be easier to clean
- Complete the installation in phases that could work around an operational environment
The Solution
Elgood Industrial Flooring specified and installed a complete Britdura 750 solvent free epoxy flooring system tailored to Martin Audio’s High Wycombe facility.
Key elements of the solution included:
- Vacuum contained shot-blasting
The floor was prepared using vacuum contained shot-blasting. Its clean, dust free nature made it particularly suitable for use in an operational environment, while also providing the correct mechanical key for strong adhesion of the new coating. - Remedial work to defects and joints
Elgood carried out remedial work to fill bolt holes, cracks and joints. This helped prevent these areas from becoming dirt traps and improved the cleanability and overall practicality of the finished floor. - Britdura 750 solvent free epoxy floor coating
Martin Audio selected Elgood Industrial Flooring’s Britdura 750 solvent free epoxy floor coating in Slate Grey. Being solvent free and virtually odourless, the coating could be installed during normal production hours, helping to reduce disruption to the site. - Scratch trowel and roller application
The coating was applied by scratch trowel and roller to an approximate thickness of 750 microns. This method helped achieve an even distribution of the coating and a consistent finished appearance across the floor. - Built-in fine slip resistant finish
The completed floor included a built-in fine slip resistant finish, making it ideal for use with scrubber dryer machines and helping to balance day-to-day safety with ease of cleaning. - Three-phase installation programme
The installation was completed in three phases, each lasting three days. This phased approach allowed the project to be delivered efficiently while remaining practical for an active operational environment.
All works were manufactured, prepared and installed entirely by Elgood Industrial Flooring’s own in-house team, ensuring consistent workmanship and a single point of responsibility throughout.
Outcome
The completed industrial floor coating provided Martin Audio with a durable and more presentable floor in High Wycombe:
- A 2,000 m² Britdura 750 solvent free epoxy industrial floor coating
- A hard-wearing surface suitable for forklift use
- A Slate Grey finish that improved the overall appearance of the facility
- Repaired holes, cracks and joints that reduced dirt traps and improved cleanability
- A built-in fine slip resistant texture suitable for scrubber dryer cleaning
- A phased installation programme that allowed the works to be carried out in an operational environment
By combining vacuum contained preparation, remedial repairs and a proven Britdura 750 epoxy flooring system, Elgood Industrial Flooring delivered a practical, durable and professional industrial floor that supported Martin Audio’s facilities upgrade in High Wycombe.
