Industrial Floor Coating for Technicut Ltd in Sheffield

Introduction

Technicut Ltd required a cost-effective and hard-wearing industrial floor coating for their engineering facility in Sheffield. The existing 1,300 m² concrete floor was worn, previously shotblasted and affected by some oil contamination, so it needed thorough preparation before a new high-performance coating system could be installed.

Following the successful completion of a Britdura 500 solvent free epoxy floor coating at Technicut’s new facility, Elgood Industrial Flooring was selected to deliver this second installation. The project involved the installation of a Britdura 750 highbuild solvent free epoxy floor coating in Slate Grey and French Blue, complete with permanent yellow epoxy line markings to Technicut’s own floor plan. The full industrial floor project was completed in one five-day phase.

Background

Technicut needed an industrial floor that could meet the practical demands of an engineering environment while also improving the appearance and organisation of the working space. The floor had to cope with regular forklift traffic, provide a more professional finish and include a clear layout for gangways and hazard hatchings throughout the building.

The existing concrete floor was worn and had some contamination from oil, which meant preparation was critical. The new industrial floor coating needed to bond effectively to the old substrate, improve the floor surface and provide a long-term wearing finish suitable for daily industrial use.

As British manufacturers and installers with more than 125 years of experience in industrial flooring, Elgood Industrial Flooring was able to provide a complete in-house solution. The Britdura 750 highbuild solvent free epoxy floor coating was manufactured by Elgood in the UK and installed by Elgood’s own specialist team, giving Technicut a single, reliable point of responsibility from floor preparation through to completion.

The Challenge

The project needed to address several clear requirements:

Seal and upgrade a 1,300 m² worn concrete industrial floor

Prepare a previously shotblasted substrate with some oil contamination

Provide a cost-effective industrial floor coating suitable for an engineering environment

Create a durable surface capable of withstanding forklift traffic

Install a clear floor layout including gangways and hazard hatchings

Improve the appearance of the working facility

Complete the installation in one phase within a five-day programme

The Solution

Elgood Industrial Flooring specified and installed a complete Britdura 750 highbuild solvent free epoxy flooring system for Technicut Ltd in Sheffield.

Key elements of the solution included:

Dust free shotblasting

Dust free shotblasting was used to provide a light physical key to the concrete floor. This preparation method helped clean and profile the substrate, creating the correct surface for strong adhesion of the new industrial floor coating.

Diamond grinding to edges

Diamond grinding was used to prepare the floor edges. This ensured that the coating system could be installed cleanly and consistently across the full floor area, including perimeter details and harder-to-reach sections.

Britdura 750 highbuild solvent free epoxy floor coating

Technicut selected Elgood Industrial Flooring’s Britdura 750 highbuild solvent free epoxy floor coating. This system is applied by trowel to a thickness of approximately 750 microns to 1 mm, creating a strong, practical and hard-wearing industrial floor.

Britdura 750 was chosen to help alleviate the existing surface profile and provide a durable wearing surface for the long term. This made it well suited to the demands of an engineering facility with forklift traffic.

Slate Grey and French Blue floor finish

The main industrial floor was finished in Slate Grey and French Blue, improving the appearance of the facility while supporting a clearer and more organised working environment.

Permanent yellow epoxy line markings

Permanent yellow epoxy line markings were installed to Technicut’s floor plan. These markings helped define gangways, hazard hatchings and operational zones throughout the building, improving layout clarity and supporting safer day-to-day movement around the facility.

Fine slip resistant surface

The coating was finished with a fine slip resistant texture. This provided a safer surface underfoot while remaining easy to clean using scrubber dryer machines and Elgood’s epoxy floor detergent cleaner.

All works were completed by Elgood Industrial Flooring’s in-house installation team, ensuring consistent workmanship and a carefully managed programme from preparation to final line marking.

Outcome

The completed industrial floor coating provided Technicut Ltd with a durable, practical and visually improved floor for their Sheffield engineering facility:

A 1,300 m² Britdura 750 highbuild solvent free epoxy industrial floor coating

A cost-effective upgrade for a worn existing concrete floor

A hard-wearing finish suitable for forklift traffic and engineering use

A Slate Grey and French Blue floor design that improved the appearance of the facility

Permanent yellow epoxy line markings for gangways, hazard hatchings and operational layout

A fine slip resistant surface that remains easy to clean and maintain

A project delivered in one five-day phase

By combining dust free preparation, diamond grinding, Britdura 750 highbuild epoxy flooring and permanent yellow line markings, Elgood Industrial Flooring delivered a long-term industrial floor solution for Technicut Ltd in Sheffield. The finished floor provides the durability, layout clarity and professional appearance needed for a busy engineering environment.
